I love REM, but I have to say this isn't one of their best performances. Putting aside the actual issues with the performance itself, the mix is a bit off too - can hardly hear Mike singing.

Bloody hell. How you can say it's the 'best song ever written' and then bollocks it up by playing way too fast?! You can see Stipe was clearly thrown off kilter by that.

R.E.M. might have called it a day, but may their legacy live on forever in brilliant classics like this one.

@Flint1545 Not sure how you can conclude the lyrics aren't "worth crying over". LC puts a lot into his songs, and there's surely some life experience behind this. Maybe a past lover or a woman he knew.

How can anyone dislike this?! I mean I'm a little biased, but my whole body shivers when I hear this. I mean it's better than an orgasm. Not going to make jokes about people who don't get the significance of this, it's just a little hard to grasp why.

Seems to be many more people wanting to discuss 500 Days of Summer than the song itself.

To me that highlights how brilliant this song is - I mean you people obviously walked away from the movie and remembered the song.

What's up with the BoA ad? Seems like a poor choice of placement, given the subject matter of the interview. I'd be pretty pissed if I were BoA and I paid for that spot. Or perhaps they specifically wanted it that way, which just seems dumb.

I love both Regina and Cohen, but I can't get into this cover at all. It's Cohen's song, he was there in the Chelsea Hotelwhen it happened, and you can feel that emotion come through in spades when he sings it.

This music is devastating. I'm tearing up as I listen to this one. Reminds me of a dark period in my life when I discovered IM.
