Okay, seriously, I am a STRAIGHT guy who watched this movie and completely identifies with the character portrayed by Barbara Parkins. I am a native New Englander living in New York (okay, Long Island, but it IS New York) who feels overwhelmed and longs for his native area.

Wow, what great and different times. A person could go to New York, find an apartment building reserved for either men or women (at relatively reasonable rates) and a job on the first (maybe second or third) try through an employment agency. Those WERE the days.

The character portrayed by the actress Thelma Ritter is a very loose interpretation of Molly Brown.
