That's a really nice wooden desk he has there. I think really nice to have balls of solder roll on it and burn. Looks like he would have put down a heat resistant surface like a ceramic tile or even a newspaper to keep his nice desk from getting marred.

@nobux60 As funny as it sounds, after WWII and a shortage of everything, some cars were built to run on kerosine. And, upon looking it up on Wikipedia, there was a tractor designed to start up on gasoline and then switch over to run on kerosine.

@LehmansHardware It's unfortunate that it is so expensive and no argument that it's the best kerosine available in the United States as far as purity and freshness. But, if you use these lamps a lot, it can be pricey.
I spoke to the Aladdin Lamp corporation myself last year and was told that...

I wouldn't recommend allowing the bowl or fount to get that low. It will shorten the life of the wick. If the lamp should burn dry it isn't dangerous, it will just go out.
Also, some mantles are slightly radioactive. I wouldn't advise not breathing in the smoke.
I think that it's good t...

The Lox-On requires that that tabs be bent to mate the particular chimney/flu. That's one of the few things my father new how to do well. Lox-On require that the flu be inserted to the gallery and turned. If the tabs are too sharp and the force is too great, the flu will crack. This is why ma...

@mechanicsnut Looking at what's been posted on these lamps, I'll create a few how to and safety videos regarding these things.
You get a new wick when the current one won't go up high enough to make a flame big enough to make a bright enough light.
You don't char the wick. Better not to ...

While it appears the lamp will work ok in this set up, I'm not sure it's a model C without looking it up in the book. Clearly, the chimney is not suitable for an Aladdin lamp and there is no mantle. It's likely that the chimney or flu hasn't cracked because without a mantle which would create a...

Looks like as the first poster said, wrong chimney and no mantle. You can run an Aladdin without a mantle. It'll be much like a regular oil lamp. The mantle allows for a greater flame and greater heat which makes the ashes of the mantle glow or evanescence. With the extra heat, a different t...
