About Me:
Reporter Mom trying to find out the truth about what's best for baby.
. ******************
When my son was born, I struggled with breastfeeding. At first, it was so painful, my toes would curl every time Gunner latched on. However, I was persistent and I am glad about that because the more I learn about breastfeeding, the more I realize just how important it is. It is the perfect food that God has endowed women with to nourish their babies.
In North America, we unfortunately equate the breast more with sex than with nourishment, to the point that we feel wrong about feeding our babies in public and about continuing to nurse our children beyond the first few months.
As I have been finding out, however, older babies and toddlers continue to reap many benefits from receiving breast milk, including having a stronger immune system, feeling more emotionally secure and having a stronger bond with their mother. Some people are put off by the idea of someone nursing an older baby, implying that there is something perverted or unnatural about it. However, North American physicians and reference books recommend nursing at least for one year, and the WHO recommends that children be breastfed for at least two years. Neither American doctors nor the WHO say that a child should be weaned at one or two years of age, but that they should be breastfed at least this long, if not longer.
So, in order to spread awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding, to encourage other nursing moms, and to flout taboos about breastfeeding beyond the first six months, I have been posting videos of me nursing my son and will continue to add one every month as long as I continue to breastfeed him.

Say what you will about extended breastfeeding; please don't advocate not vaccinating. To a point, what you do with your children is your choice, but presenting scientific evidence out of context and without defining the terms that you use is highly irresponsible. Also, you should make an effort to ensure that you understand every word in a scientific article before condensing it for anxious mothers. The jargon is really dense and easy to misunderstand, as you apparently did. I posted information on the video regarding what the nude mutation actually is, and why it's irrelevant to most children. Any medication, including Tylenol, has a risk associated. Vaccines are no exception. However, there is a huge, tangible benefit to vaccination-- both to your child, and to any immunocompromised individuals in your community.

I was breast fed till I was 4. Growing up it was odd because my parents were from Europe but I grew up in a very intolerant working class place in America. Now as an adult I realize those with a prejudice against nursing were at fault, not my mother.
