With all due respect, that mentality of allowing and enabling in this particular area what is a LARGE RASH of
exploitation is a big problem. On the surface an open mic night does do what you say it does and I won't disagree. But once EVERY FRICKIN VENUE has one and some do more than one in a week-it is no longer the good thing you say it is. There are TOO MANY of them and that is NOT a good thing. You think they are doing this for the musician's benefit, but the only real benefit is PROFIT for the clubowner who holds freebie night and doesn't have to pay for all the talent.
Jesus H. Motherfucking Christ people! Enough with the open mics! Another one opening up? Can't you musicians understand? Every single Goddamned night one of these events is held it means professional entertainers are being prevented from working and being paid. The clubowners continue to profit while musicians are led through hoops to play for free and in most cases spend while they are there(PAY TO PLAY!). Another venue expoits entertainers and their craft for their personal profit but not the artist.Get a fucking clue people!
Right on Bro! The club owners have figured it out...musicians are fools and will play for free or, like you said, even pay to play. Brother and Sister professional musicians...keep an eye out for these thieves and just flag them. If they want to run this scam make them pay for advertising somewhere else...not for free on CL. Ahhhhh, I feel better now;-)...how about you?
