It's as bad as putting a space before a question mark, we're not in France, after all. ;-)
And about "handy": it's a word noone will understand outside the German area, because the rest of the world knows it for something else. Another good example: "body bags" (supposed to be a rucksacks with one strap AFAIK, but of course is something totally different).

whats so bad about calling a phone 'handy' ?
