I had forgotten how good this song is! Beautiful, from a very dignified gentleman with a wonderful voice. Takes me back to my strange childhood.. My father was a Liverpool racist yet he could sing every Paul Robeson song, I learned lots of songs from my father but never learnt racism.

This is the version that does it for me. Amazing voice and amazing man. Thank you for this post. I have this on an old LP of Paul Robeson's But no way of playing it just now.

Don't know about her Mother, but her father was the great Mel Tillis, another good Country singer. I like them both! MY favourite Pam Tillis song is Calico Plains, it's one of her finest songs.
