lOGGING,LEASE PADDING,GRAVEL ECT.
About Me:
I have been driving truck for about 5 years, started driving in Edmonton doing city p&d,moved to the north 2 years ago.Offroad driving is a challenge, road conditions can change quickly.Nothing like slidding backwards down a hill with a load of logs to get your blood going. In summer wet slippery clay, mud and soft shoulders on the road can make it more of a challenge than winter driving. In winter a snow pack road is nice to run on ,its when it gets warm,it turns to ice, sometimes you climb out of the truck and a pair of skates would do better than work boots.I sure am getting better at chaining up lol, faster anyway.Have gotten pretty good at fixing airlines. In the city if something went ,a mechanic was sent to fix it,in the bush well you learn to fix what you can.
Now I have no problem remembering the ingredients to a recipe but truck parts well forgive me if I still call it a thingymajig.
I grew up on a farm working with my dad,now driving a commercial truck is alot differant than a grain truck.Shook like a leaf for about the first 6 months.Did not help when you went to drop a trailer in a dock and all the guys would come and watch making bets as to how long it was going to take you to get in or if they were going to have to do it for you.Learnt fast.actually you learn alot from other drivers,to any new drivers ,listen to the guys who have been doing it for years, they do things the way they do for a reason, never get cocky and think you know it all, cause you dont.
Winter here can be a range from extreme cold(-44 c.this winter, trying to get fuel in this town was impossible, pumps not working, fuel gelling, airlines, brakes freezing, not fun)to +4 in a week.Summer is beautiful if its not raining all the time.
The beauty of the north country keeps me here, everyday I am out there be a good day or one where nothing is working I try and stop for a minute to just look at my surroundings.I always carry my camera ,just enjoy sharing what I see and experiance.
I do have to give alot of credit to the people I work with and run into on a daily basis, always willing to help or show you what you need to know beautiful country filled with good people.
