Q: What is field herping?
A: Herping derives its name from the word herpetology, which is the study of reptiles and amphibians. Field herping is basically going outdoors and looking for snakes, frogs, lizards, turtles, etc.

Q: How'd you get into field herping?
A: Grew up as a kid in southern Arkansas, started catching snakes at age 7 and never looked back.

Q: Why do you field herp?
A: It gets me outdoors frequently, presents some cool opportunities to meet interesting people and allows us to visit some unique places. My 9 year old son shares the same passion and has been field herping with me since age 3.

Q: Do you collect snakes from the wild?
A: We never collect, we always observe and release.

Q: Ever been bitten?
A: Yes, both my son and I have been "tagged" (as herpers like to call it) several times, comes with the territory. Never by a venomous snake though.
Q: What do you do besides herp and youtube?
A: Coach youth sports 8 months out of the year, run, walks with the family, hang out with my boys, skiing in the winter, trade stocks and pretty much anything outdoors.

Q: Favorite Movies?
A: Time Bandits, Stand By Me, Planet of the Apes, Donnie Darko, Sling Blade, Napoleon Dynamite, Garden State, Traffic, Almost Famous.

Q: What about TV?
A: Don't watch much TV, maybe 1 hour per week if that.

Q: Favorite music?
A: All over the board, depends upon what I'm doing. Hardcore for running.

Q: Favorite place for a vacation?
A: San Diego/Coronado Island, CA or southern Utah.

I love your cover page here, and your Q & A. Thank you so much for not collecting. Some herps in Arizona have a bad rep for that so I try to be careful when I share a video. Sometimes it's a real conflict because I want to share my love for the animals without jeopardizing their well-being by revealing their location to unscrupulous people. Thanks again & good luck on your next trip to our fantastic state!
