1916 was the Easter Rising in Dublin which was doomed to failure from the beginning because a ship carrying arms for the Irish Volunteers from Germany was intercepted and scuttled by the British Navy. The Rising went ahead but the volunteers were poorly armed because the arms shipment had not arrived. The Rising failed and the leaders were executed it was this that totally turned the public against the British forces in Ireland. There was no going back after 1916 and a policy of ignoring British influence in Ireland was adopted. In 1919 the War of Independence kicked off and finished in 1921 were a treaty of independence was negotiated by the IRA and the British Government the only snag in the treaty was we would still remain in the commonwealth but the British forces had not got the morale to return to Ireland and the IRA had almost no ammunition left. A new constitution was made in Ireland in 1937 and in 1949 we left the commonwealth to become the Republic of Ireland

Thats it man thats how we were successful in The Irish War of Independence (1919-1921) against them. It's a pity they still hold on to Northern Ireland when the rest of the country is sovereign!
