Overloading really doesnt accomplish much in a pistol. You are throwing most of it out the end of the barrel anyway. Back down to 40 gr. and it will have just as much knockdown power and wont break your wrist. I am betting that was a big conical and not a patched round ball.

How much does that rifle weigh, how is the recoil as compared to a 30 30? I have a messed up neck and do a lot of hunting with pistols. I have always been curious about a .44. I had a 30 30 trapper Winchester that was a real cheek buster.

I always found a short .357 to be more unpleasant to shoot than a .44 mag.There is just something about that sharp recoil and muzzle blast fireball. Not very scientific but there it is.

Grandpa may have had a carbine in Korea but it wasn't that one. Thats a sixties or seventies vintage Iver Johnson. You can see why they aren't in business anymore. Originals are usually really reliable if nothing else. They are a ball to shoot but ammo is getting reallllllllly pricy.
