Hystory:
Slomobat is first Western European franchise of Sarajevo based advice bureau Spori Sismis (translating as Slow Bat).
On the other hand Spori Sismis is contemporarisation of the traditional Sarajevo phenomena, historically called Oracle of Sarajevo.
Its working is based on a very simple principle: the Oracle does not give any other answers but YES or NO.
There is no clear information of the exact historical origins of the Oracle. It can be traced and documented to the beginning of the 20th Century, but the stories of its origins date from time of the Ottomans Empire and building of the Gazi Husref Bey mosque in 1531. This is not proven by any historical facts, but the fact is that the present location of the Spori Sismis premises is enjoying the view of the mosque.
The modern landmark of the rise to the prominence of the Oracle was the event marking the start of the First World War. On 14.06.1914, a student called Gavrilo Princip (his last name translates as Principle) expressed great doubts about the act he planned to commit. Advice of his friends from Black Hand secret organisation did not shed away that doubt. He asked advice of the Oracle. After the clear answer (it is not known if the answer was YES or NO, as his question to the Oracle was never made public),
he went out to the streets to assassinate Franz Ferdinand, Habsburg Crown Prince. He was not there alone. Few of his comrades were planning the same act. One of them managed to come very close to the Prince, and threw the hand grenade. He missed, only 3 bodyguards were wounded. At this moment seemed that the whole plan is going to fail. One does not get the chance of surprise twice. Princip, disillusioned, went to local bar and started drinking, doubting his life, and above all the advice of the Oracle. After a while, quite drunk, he was walking streets of Sarajevo, and suddenly, the carriage of Franz Ferdinand appeared in front of him. He fired with no hesitation, killing Franz and his wife, and changed the course of history. He never doubted Oracle again, even on his TBC deathbed less then 2 years later.
There must be numerous academic works connecting action by Princip (via First and Second World War) to 9/11 events. Considering the importance of both happenings, the historical role of Oracle of Sarajevo appears to be globally gravely underestimated.
In 1990ies, during the siege of Sarajevo (Second Balkan War), the Oracle retook its prominent public function.
It was in that time that Spori Sismis was founded as the hand of the Oracle offering free advice service.
It played a big part in the life and collective sub conscience of besieged Sarajevo citizens. There were so many urgent decisions to be made in short time, (concerning in particular Serbian snipers on the surroundings hills), that Spori Sismis advices saved many innocent lives.
Today Spori Sismis (with its famous slogan: Advice with no mistake/Savjet bez greske), serves as modern advice bureau for Sarajevo citizens ("pay as much as you want"), as well as for thousands of cultural, ethnic and
disaster tourists visiting the city all year long
("very expensive").
