hey guys! I'm Sara. before August '09 I was your average teen going to school, working,playing varsity basketball and preparing to go to college on a scholarship. I started getting sick, Doctors weren't sure of the cause. I had severe memory loss, disorientation, night sweats, headaches etc. I was told it was " all in my head" and believed that it was for awhile...they're the Doctors I'm not, right? after 3 stays in psychiatric wards (a total of 38 days) for disorientation (it got to the point that I couldn't even remember my own address or names of close friends and some relatives), undergoing 6 rounds of Electroconvulsive Shock Therapy,countless group and individual programs, months of physical therapy,seeing over 25 specialists, and being prescribed dangerous amounts of medications at only 17 yrs. old i was continuing to deteriorate rapidly. I took things into my own hands, i wasn't going down without a fight, found a diagnosis that fit ALL my symptoms instead of treating each individual one,sold everything i had, flew to NY to see a specialist and found out i had tested positive for lyme disease,bartonella and babesia infections.I have experienced and seen more than anyone should have to experience in a lifetime, and at such a young age. I just have to keep telling myself that it can only make me a stronger, more empathetic person.

-THE LAST 25 MONTHS OF MY LIFE HAS CONSISTED OF :

* Extensive monitoring and testing by specialists
* 7 months of homebound homecare nursing
* 38 days in the hospital
* 3 stays in psych wards for extreme disorientation
* 6 rounds of Electroconvulsive Shock Therapy
* 9 months bedbound
* 10 surgeries
* 3 trips to NY to see a LLMD
* 7 months of intense daily IV antibiotic therapy through a surgically implanted portacath (over 2,000 IVS)
* 4 months of 2x weekly intramuscular injections (a total of 64 injections)
* 4 months of physical therapy
* 5 days in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
* Being prescribed almost EVERY psychiatric medication you can think of to attempt to relieve the disorientation...and at dangerous levels (before the Lyme was discovered) Most of them causing unbearable side effects
* God knows how many blood draws, MRI's,CT scans,EEG's & tests
* Relearning how to drive, read, write & preform basis tasks/skills (Even the microwave was a huge feat haha)
* 1 month of speech/cognitive therapy
* Many trips to a infusion clinic
* Occipital lobe injections
* Digestive tract evaluation test (stomach doesn't digest or absorb food properly, causing extreme nausea.)
* Hundreds of thousands of dollars in Medical bills
