Uh, the technology was avaliable for purchase in computer stores days after it was released, running around a $200 price range. The reason the consoles never implemented them is entirely the decision of the company who made them; in terms of Nintendo's Wii, it was developed in favor of casual fun and motion control, and therefore Nintendo saw no reason to implement anything higher than a baseline GPU.

Of course the application of the technology in the Wii U won't be old; it's a stronger GPU compared to the 360 and PS3. The point I made was in response to the people stating that the Wii U runs off of "one of the best GPU's on the market", when it's performance is mediocre compared to some of the new cards that are avaliable at similar prices in computer stores today.
