I typically watch videos through WiiMC using its sharing function. I store my videos on a computer and by sharing the video folder, WiiMC can view those files. Another way is to put videos on a USB drive and select them from there.

You are correct, the Wii does not handle HD content very well. MKV files are high definition. Most likely, the MP4 file is transcoded in HD as well.

Yes, WiiMC supports NTFS formatted drives. I am currently using that format now.

Yes, it reads all formats. (Fat32, NTSF and WBFS)

Typically thats an cIOS issue. If I understand you correctly, you are saying that you performed an official Wii System Menu Update, correct? So your System Menu is version 4.3. Please confirm. If so, have you completed a softmod since you updated to 4.3?
