Thank you so much for your channel comment about Maria Callas. She was a great diva and has become a great legend. unfortunately, her actual voice doesn't live up to the legend she has become. Her voice was harsh and brittle and not very pleasant to the ear, especially after the first few years of her career. Nobody is willing to admit that because it would spoil the Legend of La Divina. People forget that she was also called The Great Ugly Voice.
Her acting ability was of a very high quality and I guess for some people it overcame the limitations of her voice. I personally could never see what all the fuss was about. I always considered her a mediocre singer at best.

Also, nice videos. Interesting, you play flute, piano, violin? That's quite nice.

What fingering did you use for that high E? I use 1 and 2 on the left hand, 1 and 2 on the right hand plus the second trill key with no thumb or C key. Nicely done. Top rate playing. Take my comments with Erna Sack with a grain of salt: my ears are nowhere as good as yours.

I see your point. Her coloratura though, okay admittedly it was not always perfect (eg towards the end of Sovra il se la ma mi posa), but I think it's generally pretty well perfect. And especially when you consider her incredible size: what other soprano has so much flexibility as well as so much power (I suppose Birgit Nilsson comes close). And well, no-one is ever really a fan of her vocal timbre, but I don't think it really matters. For her it wasn't one fixed timbre but vocal colour that she suited for each of her roles. For example, her Lucia sounds nothing like her Lady Macbeth!

I was wondering about your comment of Callas... not saying it's 'wrong' or anything, I perfectly respect your opinion. But Callas' technical finess, size and power, and most of all her interpretive powers are unbelievable, I think. So what's your major problem with her? No offense intended at all, I'm just curious!
