Normans are French because of simple reasons:
Normans are the people of Normandy, but the majority of them were Franks and gauls (like other French).
Vikings that settled were a minority, and immediatly mixed with locals, adopting chritianity and speaking Old French language
Normandy was a duchy, vassal of the King of France, meaning it belonged and was linked to the Kingdom of France
A lot of French expressions are also used
The 2 mottos of the UK are in French, to remind them their French heritage
The Plantagenet (or House of Anjou) is a French noble family from Anjou Region (main city Angers). This family ruled England from 1154 to 1458. Anti French feelings from english come from that period where their French rulers used England to defend their French homeland and interest against the French central power (the King of France)
