I am a retired teacher, happily married and living in the south west of England. I have struggled with my weight ever since I left home in my early 20s. Over the following years I have managed to lose substantial amounts of weight but have never been able to keep it off.

Earlier in 2010 I decided that enough was enough and I didn't want to live the rest of my life this way so following a visit to my doctor I was sent to the local hospital to enrol on a pre-wls program.

That program began at the end of March and we were set targets of losing 10% of our current weight and improving our fitness levels.

Those meetings finished and I went back to the hospital on 20th August where my consultant agreed to refer my case for funding for WLS and funding was confirmed a month later. I was put on the waiting list for WLS in October 2010.

My surgery date for RNY gastric bypass was 18th January 2011 at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton
