!!Please read before viewing!! These are not close-up recordings. The volume in these clips has been modified. Please mind your volume control throughout the video. Also, don't watch this in high quality; the sound is more accurate in the lower quality.
Here is my third volume of locomotive airhorn sound recordings. I have an interesting mix this time (and thankfully there aren't quite as many K-3LAs as in the last volume). Below is a list of the names of horns in each clip, any comments about them, and the approximate time in the video at which each clip begins.
1. Nathan K-3LA, leaving; very gentle-sounding. (beginning) 2. Nathan P-124 (P-3), third generation (new cast), leaving. (0:31) 3. Leslie RS-5T, leaving, heard early in the morning. My furnace is on, but the horn can still be heard clearly. (0:55) 4. Nathan K-3LA, leaving; echo is slightly eerie. (1:22) 5. A strange Leslie horn that sounds like a fouled S-5T. The 25, 31, and 37 bells can clearly be heard. You might be able to (very very slightly) hear the 44 bell, and the 55 bell seems to be completely silent if not slightly sounding. (1:42) 6. Nathan K-5LA, leaving, heard early in the morning; possibly an older horn with a curious (and slightly haunting) tuning. Furnace is on; see if you can hear the horn. (2:12) 7. Nathan K-3LA, coming on a windy night; leaving horn wasn't worth posting. (2:37) 8. Leaving horn of another Nathan K-3LA; very smooth-sounding. (3:07) 9. Leslie RS-5T, leaving, heard during the day; this horn has replaced the S-3L as the common daytime airhorn in my area. (3:39) 10. Nathan K-5LA, leaving, heard early in the morning. Geese can also be heard. (4:00) 11. Nathan K-3LA, coming and leaving sounds. (4:44) 12. Fouled Nathan K-3LA, leaving; K-1 bell is silent. Really nice sound on a quiet snowy night. I've recorded a handful of K-3LAs like this after this one (this was the first one). (5:31) 13. Leslie RS-5T, leaving, heard during the day. This one sounds fantastic with a near-perfect blend of notes and is my best recording of an RS-5T yet. (5:56) 14. Nathan K-5LA, leaving, heard early in the morning; sequence is different from the standard--this one sounds 3 short and 1 long. (6:22) 15. Nathan K-3LA, leaving; possibly fouled like the one in #12, although the K-1 bell is slightly sounding. (6:49) 16. Nathan K-3LA, leaving; fouled like the one in #12, K-1 bell can be heard trying to sound at times. Might be the same horn as the one in the last clip. (7:19) 17. Nathan K-3LA, leaving; fouled like the one in #12, slightly higher in pitch than the last one, K-1 bell can be heard trying to sound at times, but less than the last one. (7:43) 18. Nathan P-124, leaving; possibly old-cast (first or second generation). (8:09) 19. Leslie RS-5T, leaving, heard during the day; has a creepy resonance. (8:34) 20. Leslie RS-5T, leaving, heard a few hours after the last one (#19); could possibly be the same one as the one in #19 going in the other direction, sounds much clearer than the last one. (8:57) 21. Beautiful Nathan K-3L or K-3H horn; the clip is in three parts: pt1 is the horn heard from a distance before it got to the coming horn crossing; pt2 is the coming horn sound, loud and beautiful-sounding; pt3 is the leaving horn sound, not very loud but neat to hear after the beautiful coming horn sounds. (9:22 to the end)
