Rasa Sayange originated from Maluku, which is the oldest spices sources in Indonesia.

Rasa Sayange originated from Maluku, which is the oldest spices sources in Indonesia.
Dated back from the colonial age of V.O.C from netherland, Rasa Sayange is well known along the maluku people, and then the song is spread around the world by the sailors.
The reason why the song is so popular because the song is very flexible. After the refrain part of "rasa sayange, rasa sayang sayange, eh lihat nona jauh, rasa sayang sayange", the verses will go to a couplet advice which usually is the formal way of giving an advice for young people by the older people.
This custom traced back to years before even the British colony invade the Malaysia peninsular. Means, the song is originated from Maluku itself.
Another version of the original sources said that the song is actually serves as an ice breaker and communication between the missionaries that came to Maluku during the V.O.C time. By using the lyrics and sing it together with the native people, the missionaries use the song to deliver their messages and scripture.
If you go to Holland nowadays and ask the old people there, they can easily remember this song as the song from Indonesia as well, because the VOC use the song to entertain their guest and for their parties as well.
Rasa sayange is an Indonesian heritage, and it is just such a shame if we lost it due to our carelessness. Please keep the heritage alive and let everyone know the beauty of it.
