Singer-songwriter Stuart Hoskin fills his work with images, both precise and poetic, of hope and positivity, love, the ocean, the stars and all things magical.
As he digs deeper and deeper into the vagaries of human nature and the way the mind works against you discarding good memories for bad, he draws on the pain of his own past and brings that emotion into a collection of songs distinguished as much by their emotional urgency as by their often musical inventiveness and moving harmony.
He aims to convey the feeling, if not the specific circumstances, of intense periods in his personal life: long-term relationships based on the need to not be alone in this world, and the unexpected start of his journey to finding himself after years of dealing with childhood traumas alone.
He recalls this recent time as "a real emotional rollercoaster. I was racing from sheer joy to utter despair and back again over and over, writing material that mirrors those drastically changing moods and shifts from pensive to euphoric to revealation at moments like when I wrote I am not my brain or Purpose." admits Hoskin. "I'm not afraid to look at my dark side." And Stuart doesn't waste any time doing that, opening with lines like, "It's gone, It's over; The lies are in the open." from his song Over. "It's nice to be able to be honest about how i feel in my music," he admits. "But I still like to leave the songs open enough so that people can create their own images, their own ideas."
Stuart believes that each person has all the necesary tools to "cure" themselves and is on a journey to share both his music and this idea through positivity and questioning the reality of certain belief systems people hold on to and take for granted.
Now calling his work Six Year Cycle, he draws on the idea that in every aspect of your life there are cycles, for him six years seems to be resonant from the child to the boy to the young man to the adult and the here and now of life. A sad and emotional feeling is evident in his empathic music, but older, more knowing ears will find something even more engrossing in these songs: the sound of real life unfolding between the lines of each and every song.
"My motto? i would say "Believe In Yourself." That you are not your brain, your hurtful memories, your past experiences but a soul or other form that has complete control over every stored feeling and memory you have. Take this with you in every step of your life and you will start to see how many people are just a pattern or a reaction rather than truely living and being. Only when you see this and understand your part in IT you will start to become emotionally free and realise YOU can be everything you ever wanted to be and you can have all the things you deserve in life"
