Yes, Brailowsky's early recordings are often very impressive, but those made in the latter part of his life for RCA and CBS certainly exhibit a marked drop in standards, regrettably.

A nice, jaunty rendition of the song, probably as Kern conceived it; but it took Peggy Lee to realise its full, poignant potential. The echo effect makes the recording sound as if Bing is singing to an almost empty auditorium, which I'm sure he never did!

@MaestroTJS The "effect" the performance has on you is obviously more favourable than the effect it has on me. This is an early recording by Arrau who certainly was one of the most "controlled" of pianists in his mature years; a similar transformation can be heard in the playing of Artur Rubinst...
