Perpetuating Ki ho'alu Kahiko
About Me:

1st started learning slack key around 1974 trying to pick up by ear what I heard Gabby Pahinui,Leonard Kwan, Sonny Chillingworth & Peter Moon playing. Also studied Olomana( Jerry Santos & Robert Beaumont ) Figured out quite a bit and became moderately proficient in Taropatch (Open G ) G Wahine,Drop C, Keola's C & Open D. tuning.Met slack key master Ozzie Kotani in 2007 and within months of lessons with him had accumulated more ki ho'alu mana'o than my previous 30 plus years of experience.

Once upon a time ki ho'alu was so secretive that it almost perished because of it. Today there is so much learning material available but unfortunately there is not enough interest especially with the Hawaii residents to whom ki ho'alu is a part of their heritage.

I love & listen to all genres of music but ki ho'alu is my most beloved. I have recently begun sharing my mana'o ki ho'alu kahiko (Teaching traditional slack key) in hopes of doing my part to perpetuate slack key. If you are interested in learning contact me and I'll do what ever I can to help you along. From tablature to possible one on one lessons. My emphasis will naturally be focused on the people of Hawaii but I'll extend the offer to all you "Hawaiian at hearts" & those who share my passion for ki ho'alu regardless of who you are and where you live on this planet..

Much Aloha

I can't tell you how much it touches my heart to hear someone playing the old way. I am part Hawaiian and grew up listening to the old masters playing slack key. I still have all of my mothers old records & have finally found a way to load them on my comptuer (with lots of cleaning). Thank you so much for bringing this wonderful music for all to hear. You are truly gifted & we are blessed to have you sharing this with us. Mahalo
