The cleat did not break cleanly, it shattered and jammed as i tried to release. Having said that, it is an uncommon event. the main thing is to replace your cleats regularly.

These cleats in my opinion are dangerous, if not checked regularly. The rear of the cleat that engages the pedal is very thin, and liable to break in the pedal. I know, this has hapened to me. The Look cleats are much thicker therefore safer if used per instructions.
