I have a theory that most jokes are really Cached Jokes. People will laugh dutifully at them, recognizing a pattern that they agree is humourous, but they bypass the actually humour centre of the brain. Example: saying "Merry Christmas" after a cold day in July.

The question "So what exactly DO you believe in, then?" is a pretty good question, I think. Otherwise yes, all boneheaded stuff, much of which I've heard.

Analyzing pop culture for such tropes can be very rewarding. One often finds one has been living one's life & thinking one's thoughts based on a script written by somebody else.

And that is why it is plausible to me that the fact that oral sex might mean something different in another culture (passing into manhood, life force...) modulates the moral content of the act. Just like a child sucking on its mother's nipple could mean something very diff...
