This video is going to shock you. You're going to call these men racists; you're going to get up on your stump, you're going to get mad. After you get mad just listen. LISTEN! Everyone who ever came to America started at the bottom. Blacks, Mexicans, Chinese, and yes, even the Irish. Every group of people had to strive for success in this country. Now we have become a nation of excuses instead of success. Now it's, "Oh, I didn't make it because the government held me down, the white man held me down, I don't speak English, I'm fat, unemployable," and on and on it goes. Wake up America! I was born poor. My father was an alcoholic. My mother was a waitress. I struggled through high school because my dad kept us up all night drunk, and making our lives a hell on earth. We lived in a slum. I never saw a dentist until I was fifteen years old. I thought Spam and chicken soup was a good as it gets. When the recession hit I lost not one but three mansions. I shit you not! And I'll be there again. You can too. The only person who holds you down is the one in your head. In Nashville years ago I went to Centennial Park and sat down on the grass at the Parthenon. I imagined myself as a songwriter, and guess what, I became one. Later I thought of myself as an author, again, I became one. Everything I imagined myself as being I became. I love adversity. LOVE IT. It gives me opportunity. I love it when people bow out because the obstacles are just too high. As they lay down in exhaustion I climb over their bodies and get to my goal. When my business partner in '81 was dying I said to him, "We made a lot of money, Mr. Dorrill," and as he passed he told me, "And we will again!" So don't judge this video on first glance, because when you use all the excuses why you can't succeed, you just open the door for me, and folks like Dr. Manning and this gentleman, who is one of the greatest Americans I've ever seen!
