Here is Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) playing his arrangement of the Meditation from Thaïs by Jules Massenet (1842-1912). The piece was originally scored for solo violin and orchestra as part of an entr'acte in the second act of Massenet's 1894 opera Thaïs. Since then, it has been arranged for a variety of instrumentations and ensembles. This recording was made in RCA Victor's studios in Camden, New Jersey in late 1928. Kreisler's usual American accompanist, Carl Lamson, is at the piano.

http://www.online... - One of the most majestic, heartfelt pieces from the Baroque Era master, Johann Sebastian Bach's Air on a G String is the second movement in his Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068.
Played on a solo classical guitar, the Air takes on a more intimate tone, expressing through music those powerful human emotions which often defy words, seen through the eyes of each guitarist who plays it.

http://www.online... - This exquisite work has that unbeatable combination of an unforgettable melody blended with a text that is a familiar refrain to many, particularly those of the Roman Catholic faith. As such, it has become a holiday classic in the Western world, sung by artists as diverse as Bing Crosby and Luciano Pavarotti.
Its origins, however, were not liturgical. The original, in German, was a translation of part of Sir Walter Scott's "The Lady of the Lake." A prayer, to be sure, but an improvised one, spoken from the heart by a maiden in need of divine intervention.
Through the medium of the classical guitar, one can experience the piece's meditative tone through one's own thoughts, without words, through the lenses of one's own beliefs.
