I completely agree that students should be able to understand the gas laws from the molecular level forward but not all class can do this either of time constraints or the ability to cover and understand the the ideal gas law model. The approach of having them understand the law relationship first (heating a gas causes it to expand) and then explain why it occurs that way can be very useful as well. This would not be science majors but other disciplines to learn a gas law and then see it actually works with a demonstration can lead to a better understanding of the behavior of gasses.

students should know intuitively these relationships from understanding how gas particle behavior impacts volume, temperature, and pressure. All you are doing is giving them an out by enabling rote learning. A very poor teaching tool.

I liked learning about the relationship of the gas law variables

The videos are largely due to the chemistry department wanting to share the demonstrations we have learned with others. It actually got started to record the demonstrations our retiring faculty knew before they left and the knowledge was lost. After that idea we got a grant to help with the start up costs but largely everyone are volunteers that you see. Our chemistry club at NKU is also great about helping out. So largely it is run by a few faculty members with the help of students who volunteer their time.

Awesome!!! I will keep watching. Do you have a club organization doing this, or you do these videos on free time... ? How do you guys organize it?

Funny you should mention that. I know I have not gotten any up in a while but I am planning to film one today and have several student lined up to film a handful more through the rest of the term. We have about 60-70 in a list we want to do but just need to find the time. I hope to have a new one up Monday though. FOr everyone I am sorry for the absence but sometimes life just gets in the way.

Hey guys, I really really love your videos.

Are you going to be making any more videos anytime soon?
