Hello all! My name is Katie! My username is ShoukaTheOrca on YouTube and Flickr. I live 15 minutes away from the old SeaWorld Ohio/Six Flags Worlds Of Adventure park. Now it is a waterpark called Geauga Lake/Wildwater Kingdom. SeaWorld Ohio was such an amazing park, it still hurts to know it's gone. I fell in love with orcas ever since I saw them there, I have been there several times because my mom's company picnic was there every year. I was a baby when they took me..lol so yeah I pretty much grew up there! lol Then the park was sold and lots of stuff happened... But Six Flags bought it and 2000 was their first season. They had 4 dolphins in the old Shamu stadium. Today all of those dolphins live in California at Discovery Kingdom. Then in 2002 they got an orca named Shouka and little did I know that she would have a great impact on me. Over the 2 year time she progressed from not wanting to do her behaviors to doing almost everything perfect! I thought she would be here for a looong time. I had a season pass from 2001-2006 to the park. I went literally 5 days a week just to see Shouka. Whenever I was alone wih Shouka she would vocalize to me and it was just a beautiful sound.. She really has a funny personality. She like to show off her tongue and sometimes she would be cranky according to trainers and not want to do stuff, but she got better at doing her behaviors correct..lol When I heard the park was closing and they were getting rid of all the animals I cried for hours, days, weeks.. just so upsetting. If I would have known it was her last season in 2003 I definately would have taken tons of photos and try to get video. It just happened unexpectedly! It was so sad!
Well, I finally got to go to California to see her in her new home at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. On my birthday, October 26, 2008, in the morning we were the first people at the window for Shouka. She came to me and just sat with me gazing at each other. She loved the toys we brought, Merlin the dolphin living with her was interested in the toys too! We playedadn interacted with them for like an hour, it was a perfect start to a perfect day! In the afternoon we did the dolphin discovery feeding/interacting session and we got to kiss Jasmine and watch her do some behaviors. Then at the night show my friend Brett, a Shouka trainer found me before the show and asked me if Iwanted to be in it! Of course! I got tail splashed, gave her a handful of fish, and got to give her a fluke rubdown. The show I was in is on here if you want to see it! It was the best birthday ever! Shouka holds a special place in my heart and always will!
