Three Dog Night é uma banda estado-unidense de rock and roll bastante ativa na década de 1970, formada por Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron e Cory Wells nos vocais, Jim Greenspoon (teclado), Joe Schermie (baixo), Floyd Sneed (bateria). Surgiram no final da era do psicodelismo e faziam um rock pesado com raízes no R&B ocuparam-se basicamente em recriar antigos sucessos, mas também lançando compositores novos, como aconteceu com a dupla Elton John e Bernie Taupin, autores da faixa "Lady Samantha", do segundo LP da banda. Todos álbuns do grupo ganharam discos de ouro e a formação permaneceu inalterada até 1973, quando Joe Schermie saiu e foi substituído por Jack Ryland. Skip Konte entrou então, como segundo tecladista, mas, pouco tempo depois, a banda acabou.

Three Dog Night war eine US-amerikanische Rockband und von 1968 bis 1975 aktiv. Die Gruppe hatte sieben Mitglieder, darunter drei Sänger und zwei Keyboarder. Die Band wurde von Brian Wilson von den Beach Boys gefördert. Die Gruppe hieß ursprünglich Redwood, benannte sich aber um, weil sie in einem Artikel gelesen hatte, dass australische Aborigines in kalten Nächten mit ihren Hunden zusammen schliefen; in besonders kalten Nächten brauchten sie drei Hunde, um sich warm zu halten. Three Dog Night hatte nicht weniger als 40 goldene Schallplatten und 21 Top-40-Hits.

Eddie Brigati (vocals), Felix Cavaliere (keyboard, vocals), Gene Cornish (guitar) and Dino Danelli (drums) started the band in New Jersey. Their first two singles were covers, but after that the band's songwriting team of Brigati and Cavaliere began providing most of their songs, and the hits kept coming for the next two years. "I've Been Lonely Too Long" & "You Better Run", were only modest hits, but "Groovin'" (#1 US/Canada, 1967) put them at the top of the charts on both sides of the pond. The song was very different from the Rascals' normal style, enough so that Atlantic Records head Jerry Wexler did not actually want to release it. It was the only hit the Rascals had in the UK.
The Young Rascals were particularly popular in the second half of the '60's and the band's influence on aspiring white R&B acts was without equal. Many groups attempted to capture the Rascals' attitude and energy. Vanilla Fudge, the epitome of over-the-top funky psychedelia, among many others, owed much to the Rascals'.
