@caballeros21 to answer your question in more detail, The P-Bass has a warm midrange due to where they located the pickup. The hum-cancelling split coils are famous for that. On a Jazz bass, the mids are "scooped"out, due to the location of the single coil pickups. The single coils are known for ...

@Bassplayingboy They started using the graphite rods in 1995. Due to the neck being extra rigid, the dead spot you usually find around the G string, by the 6th or 7th frets (where the concave is at its deepest) is almost eliminated. I've been through two Rics over the years, and have come to notice that the weak necks can be a problem. When you route out enough wood to fit two truss rods, you compromise the overall stability. I had to keep a bunch of tools in the case, cuz every time the climate changed, I'd have to adjust t...

@downinsidedude The only other panel that would have happened to would be an old fuse box with pennies behind the fuses. A lot of Federal Breakers not only don't trip due to a dead short, but there have been instances where they still put power AFTER shutting it off manually. That appears to be t...

About shantypiker's bass shop
just giving tips, insights, and general knowlege...doing solos, grooves, and other bass related things.
I've been playing bass since 1985. I don't claim to be great, or anything like that, but after 24 years, I hope I don't suck! You be the judge....
The basses you'll be seeing in all my videos are Fender American Standard Jazz Basses, strung with D'Addario XL220's (guage 95-40). The 5 string is strung with XL170's. The amp you'll be hearing is a little piece of crap that still won't die, after 20 years! It's a 15 watt Park. My main rig is a Gallien Krueger 800RB going through two Hartke 410 cabinets. I also have a GK Backline 650 as a back-up, just in case...
I noticed a lot of players out there on You Tube are playin' Jazz Basses...good choise, ladies and gentlemen.
I hope you enjoy my clips as I post them. feel free to comment...even the haters...bring it on! If you know me from some of my posted comments, I like to stir up a good debate, from time to time.
