"SHANTALL"
Some believe that our personal destinies are pre-determined in the stars that shine on the night we are born. Others believe that our destinies are in our own hands and ours to shape for the future. In the case of Shantall, she has taken her destiny from the stars to mould into a future made fit for the next princess of Latin soul.
Born in Toronto, Canada, her family moved back to Peru when she was merely 8 months old, returning to the stage as one of Peru's most loved entertainment family. Her grandfather, Carlos 'Pantuflas' Oneto, helped establish television in Peru, bringing the acting spirit into the household. Her mother, Bettina Oneto is a well-known actress, comedienne and singer who hosts her very own one-woman show as well as performs at several concerts, important functions and special events. Her paternal grandfather, Lucho Macedo, was a well known pianist who brought Salsa and Merengue to Peru and performed with the legendary Celia Cruz and Tito Puente. Her father, Richard Young, is a professional percussionist who kept the musical spirit alive in his daughter. From such a tender age, Shantall began to consume and fulfill her family legacy. Surrounded by music and acting, Shantall began to speak her first words, take her first steps and make her first move towards stardom.
Moving back to Toronto at the age of 10, Shantall began to push for the spotlight, showcasing that drive that she still possesses to this day. In 1993, Shantall met her mentor Salome Bey, who cast her for the lead in the musical "Rainboworld", launching her on the path to stardom.
At the same time, Shantall was becoming more in touch with her spirituality and began to tap into her soul as an artist. These years would be an awakening for her as she soon began to realize that she was blessed with a gift to share with the world, her voice. Joining the local group Infiniti, Shantall began to focus on singing R&B music. Infinity was winning several talent competitions and Shantall was turning several heads in the music industry. Eventually she would catch the attention of Dennis Shaw, who was starting a new urban group with a Latin twist.
Shantall would have her first taste of the spotlight with Papichulo Crew in 1998. Alongside Papichulo crew, Shantall performed in front of thousands during some memorable events such as Latin Carnival at Canada's Wonderland, The International Latin Festival at Ontario Place, Hummingbird Centre, North York Performing Arts Centre and the Skydome. Papichulo Crew was also nominated for a MUCH MUSIC award, making them the only latin artists to be nominated in the dance category with a song in Spanish....
At the end of her contract with Papichulo Crew, Shantall found her self free to explore and learn about the business behind the entertainment industry. Combining these valuable lessons with years of personal growth and development as an artist have culminated today in the formation of Shantall's own independent entertainment company, Dimple Entertainment.
