About Me:
Born and raised in Maine, Shannon won the Maine Idol competition in 2007, at age 17, prevailing over a pool of 300 other contestants to be chosen by both the official judge and the crowd vote. This, however, was just one of many notable highlights in a young life that has long been filled with song.
Shannon began singing when she was just 3 years old, displaying an immediate natural talent with a coffee table for a stage and a hairbrush as her microphone. At 9, realizing that this passion was not going to be just a passing hobby, she began to study classical voice with Diane Oxner-MacDonald, Sarah McLachlans voice coach in her youth.
Countless hours of practice and study quickly paid off. At age 11, Shannon entered and won six vocal adjudication competitions, then went on to win the Brian Fogelson Trophy for Most Promising Junior Vocalist.
By age 12, she was ready to create her first demo. She recorded five tracks, including "I Know What Love Is" by Celine Dion
and "Broken Wing" by Martina McBride, at Big Sound Recording Studio in Maine. Meanwhile, she gained a statewide reputation performing widely at school events, churches and fairs around Maine, all the while continuing to write her own music. Then, at 14, she got her first real "break."
Shannon worked with Ken Medema, a singer/songwriter based in Michigan, to create "Through My Eyes," her debut album, which was released independently in 2004. This led to Shannon being asked to perform at such venues as Merrill Auditorium and on WCSH6 live 207 show. She also appeared at the Keller Williams annual convention in Las Vegas, where she gave a stunning performance of the company's new theme song to a crowd of over 7,000.
At 16, Shannon sang alongside award-winning actress, singer and recording artist Liz Callaway in The Magic of Christmas Concert with the Portland, Maine Symphony Orchestra. Shannon performed solo songs and a few duets with Callaway for 18 straight shows to a nightly audience of 1,800.
The following spring, Shannon was featured in the Good Shepherd Food Bank's fundraiser, Voices of Hope, at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine.
Soon after, Shannon entered McGill University, where she studied voice performance, focusing on opera under the direct instruction of Therese Sevadjian, a French Mezzo-Soprano from Montreal. After two years, she transferred in 2009 to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she is exploring a wider variety of musical styles.
Shannon has continued to perform at fundraisers throughout the Northeast, mostly recently appearing at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Societys Light the Night Walk in Montreal, which drew a crowd of nearly 2,000 and raised over $500,000 for the cause. She also returned to the stage at Merrill Auditorium, with the Marshall Tucker Band, where she performed God Bless America to help raise money for soldiers in need.
Currently, Shannon is a junior at Berklee majoring in Voice Performance/Music Business.
