Skillful Buddha

The Buddha was very skillful when he shared spiritual insights; he used terms such as 'Doubt everything, be your own Light" . His intention was to use words that pointed beyond themselves, that had no direct meaning, He did not want people to make concepts or intellectualize spiritual insights, but pointed toward direct spiritual experience. He was telling us to avoid 'living in our head', which is the true obstruction to spontaneous living; he wanted us to live in our hearts, and such is the result of experience.

The Buddha referred to the two truths:
Relative and Ultimate

Relative is the belief, the concept, the intellectual construct; ultimate is living, practicing, truth realized through direct experience, which does not require belief.

These two truths work in tandem, in a complementary fashion. If you believe something strong enough, which is relative truth, then through this belief it can become an experience, or ultimate truth; in that case, it is no longer necessary to hold onto the belief, so you can simply drop it, and realize it was just a tool to be used, to be discarded after it served its purpose. When you use a hammer for fixing some nails, you don't need to keep walking around with the hammer, once the job is done.

Holding onto relative truth, one can reach the Demonic stage, where the relative truth is wielded as a tool for comparing people, or for hurting them.

Ultimate truth is living in and through the heart of compassion, which is very skillful in means and communication, and brings about love, compassion, and goodness.

There is much beauty in this world and only obstacles that cover up that beauty; there is also suffering, but there is a way through suffering, to shorten the duration of suffering, face up to our suffering instead of repressing, turn it into insight, empathy and wisdom. The Buddha taught there is a way that passes through suffering.
