@phantsmogo Simple gifts existed before Copland orchestrated it in Appalachian Spring. However his setting from the ballet introduced the music to the public at large.

@SAPOGOguy Oh yeah actually a piece like this sounds great when all 4 parts are doubled because then the horn section has an equal voice to the trumpets and low brass, which in school bands far outnumber the horns in most cases.

@GregHales I was just thinking the same thing. My favorite recording of the Mahler 2 is the Bernstein NYPO recording from the 80s on DG. In it Bernstein seems to be able to be much better in tune with the ebb and flow of the music than Gergiev.

@time3space1 Some of the peices that are composed for them are seriously hard we have read a few of them in my college wind ensemble and been challenged.

Hey Concertbandland do you know that Frank Tichelli is on the staff of the USC Thorton school of music as its resident composer? No coincidence that most of the reference recordings of his works come from that universitys wind ensemble.

@silverturtle14 Yes thats the band that I saw! I actuallly saved the program from preformance and thats the name nod doubt about it. Amazeing just amazeing.

I remember playing this peice one summer during a 4th of july concert before playing a ton of patriotic music that was the backdrop for the fireworks show. Funny how hearing a recording of a peice of music can bring back memories of the occasion of its preformance.

@kon1984 For an amateur version this sounds pretty darn good!

@lstrumpet2052 I own the album that this preformance was taken from. And on the cover of the album Baumann is holding an Alexander 103 which is a double horn.

@mProducerMan Honestly this group is one of the finest bands that I have ever had the opportunity to participate in. I know the experience of playing with such talented players really has helped me grown as a musician and a hornist. BTW my name is Brian Barry and I am playing 4th horn this season.

@13Orcun No but thank you for the suggestion i will be sure to listen to it. Gliere really is an underplayed composer these days. Its almost like he is stuck in the shadow of Shostakovich and Prokofiev in terms of modern preformances of his peices.

@youvegotsyd Depending on which insturment you really have a challenge on your stand!

@stephen0793 While Wagners operas especially the ring cycle were very nationalistic I don't see how wagners views or his music were in any way socialist.

@SpielekommentareDE lol thats condensation from the planes air conditioning units. If you ever travel to an airport with high humidity don't be surprised if this is what you see.

@88mroux Nope its the B2 model with Kutzneysov NK-8 turbofans instead of the Soloviev DK-30s that power the M model.

The Brass parts in this piece of this are fun to play but are very difficult!

@pentogram23 Yeah the TU-134 looks like an aircraft that was designed to be a military transport and then someone got the bright idea to install seats instead of cargo tie down points lol. I love the screaming engine noise that that DK-30 turbofans produce!

How many Horns did you have in your section when you played this the 1st and 3rd horn parts in this march are killer lol
