The San Francisco Bay Guardian proved again early August during its 35th annual Best of the Bay party why the newspaper is considered San Francisco's favorite print weekly.
Held at the spacious bi-level Mezzanine and co-sponsored by Virgin America, Red Hook, The Disposal Film Festival, PoliteInPublic.com and In House Talent, the well-attended party drew as many as 1100 Bay Guardian readers and fans who were treated to an exquisite lineup of Bay Area musical acts, including Sila and the AfroFunk Experience, J-Boogie's Dubtronic Science, Sellassie, and The Fresh & Onlys, with DJ assists from Lucky and Paul Paul (Saturday Night Soul Party) and Stanley Frank (Chilidog.)
And while the bands played their thundering sets, members of The Lusty Lady Dancers bedazzled attendees while dancing atop mini-stages in scantily clad outfits; stage breaks were filled by the dancers of Funkanometry SF.

I don't know about you, but whenever my cool friends or wonderful but eager family visit San Francisco and ask me what there is to see and do, I get total tourist block. No matter how well I think I know the Bay, my brain shuts down and my tongue gets stuttery. And I usually don't have time to search through their fancy 300-page visitor's guides and highlight all the neato things bright pink.
So SF Bay Guardian decided to create Explore SF, for visitors and natives alike.

On March 24th, some of the Bay Area's most influential nightlife &
entertainment industry professionals gathered to celebrate the launch of
the San Francisco Bay Guardian's Spring 2009 issue of SCENE: The
Guardian Guide to Bay Area Nightlife & Glamour! The special issue covers
the latest and greatest trends amongst the City's hipsterati.
The private, exclusive party was held at the cozy retro lounge, Minx, in
San Francisco's Tenderloin district. Delicious bites were catered by
Namu Restaurant, while complimentary ale was provided by Widmer Brothers
brewery. The highlight of the evening was the awards ceremony for the
7th Annual Best Bartenders in the Bay, as voted by the Guardian's
readers!
