About this user

Seth Allyn Morris is a flutist with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida under the artistic direction of Michael Tilson Thomas; previously, he was the piccoloist of the West Michigan Symphony. Other orchestras with which he has performed include the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Battle Creek Symphony, Arbor Opera Theater, Callithumpian Consort and Discovery Ensemble, of which he was a founding flutist. Mr. Morris has had the privilege to collaborate with such respected conductors as Gustavo Dudamel, Christoph Eschenbach, JoAnn Falletta, Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Kurt Masur, Hugh Wolff and Jaap van Zweden. During his summers, Mr. Morris has participated as a fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center, the American Institute of Musical Studies Festival Orchestra in Graz, Austria and at the Bay View Music Festival.

Equally accomplished as a solo artist, Mr. Morris has earned multiple prestigious awards from around the country. He has won First Prize at the Myrna W. Brown Artist Competition, James Pappoutsakis Memorial Flute Competition and both the Kentucky Flute Festival's Young Artist and Collegiate Artist Competitions. Mr. Morris has given concerto performances with the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and the Bay View Chamber Orchestra and was acknowledged for his outstanding achievement by The House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

As an educator, Mr. Morris is passionate about teaching aspiring flutists of all ages. In 2011, He served as a guest artist for the Texas Flute Festival where he presented a workshop entitled "Enhancing your Tonal Palette" and taught a masterclass for junior high students. Mr. Morris was also invited as a guest clinician to the Kentucky Flute Festival to present a class on audition preparation. While completing his residency at the University of Michigan (UM), Mr. Morris was the Graduate Student Instructor for the flute studio; he gave monthly masterclasses teaching both undergraduate and graduate flute majors, taught a course on Flute Methods for education majors and gave private instruction to non-major flute students. In January 2012, Mr. Morris will serve as a guest artist to teach the flute studio at UM.

Beginning his flute studies at the age of ten in Simpsonville, Kentucky, Mr. Morris went on to earn a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music in Music Education summa cum laude at the University of Kentucky in 2007. He later moved to Boston to complete a Master of Music with Honors at the New England Conservatory in 2009. Currently, Mr. Morris is a doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan earning a Doctor of Musical Arts in Flute Performance. His principal mentors include Amy Porter, Paula Robison, Fenwick Smith and Gordon Cole. Mr. Morris wishes to express his sincere gratitude for all the instruction and guidance his teachers have given him throughout his education.
