@Jezetha I'm not aware of any conductor "making the first note dotted …" in that fanfare. The score appears quite unambiguous: the rhythm should be a crotchet and four semiquavers. What we've instead been getting recently (i.e. in the last 30 years+ !) is a triplet rhythm. Neither version is dott...
