Senator Lowell Barron is Alabama's District 8 State Senator. He serves the people of Northeast Alabama, representing portions of DeKalb, Jackson and Madison counties.

Senator Barron has been an effective leader for Northeast Alabama. Under his leadership, the region has seen tremendous highway development and job recruitment. Senator Barron has worked to provide a better education for all children, improved infrastructure for every community and access to better health care for senior citizens. He has diligently fought for laws that will protect Alabama's children and families, fight crystal meth, and keep state taxes low.

Education is a priority for Sen. Barron. He helped move schools toward the national average by establishing a school calendar that matched those in surrounding states. And he fought against efforts to spend the entire surplus in the state's Education Trust Fund, instead working to establish a Rainy Day Account to help Alabama schools avoid proration in the future.

During the 2009 Legislative Session, Sen. Barron sponsored a comprehensive package of bills known as the Alabama Stimulus Package, designed to work with federal efforts to stimulate the economy.
