I guess I'm in the minority, but I think Ella is the better of the two. Barbra's version, to me, is more or a demonstration of the vocal tricks she can create rather than a styling of the song that Ella does.

I remember seeing this as a segment on a PBS program dedicated to the music of Duke Ellington. Thanks much for posting it here....what a songstress for the old standards.

Yes, it's Jerry Douglas on the dobro, Dan Tyminski on mandolin, Barry Bales on bass, Tony Rice on acoustic guitar, and, of course, Alison Krauss doing the vocals and on fiddle.

If you look closely, the older fellow and his wife (Grandpa and Grandma in the video) are in real-life John Schuck and is wife Harrison. You might know John better as Rock Hudson's aide in "MacMillan and Wife" or as the suicidal dentist in the movie "MASH".

Just as an aside, this movie was filmed in part in our neck of the woods in the Ox Creek area of Weaverville, NC. It was fun seeing the process take place. If you ever watch the film, you'll see a barn dance sequence; that barn is a stone's throw away and the owner of it was pretty smart...when...

How times have changed, and not for the better. Here's a combination of Gershwin, Astaire, and Hepburn in a clip so beautiful it'll bring tears to your eyes. They just don't make 'em like this anymore.
