A true knowledge of history is critical.

Rome has poisoned the wells of history and multitudes of all lands have drunk that contaminated water. When sick, the first question the doctor asks is for your medical history in order to effect a cure. The same is true in a spiritual sense. . . Woe unto the people whose historians are their enemies.

Scotland, in reality has very little to do with Ireland, as well as being distinctly different from Ireland.

Ireland was known as 'Ierne' then 'Hibernia' before being Gaelicised to 'Scotia' and then named 'Ireland' by Pope Leo X. The first writer to call Hibernia "Scotia" was Isidore of Seville in the 6th century. The name was changed to Ireland in the 16th century by Pope Leo X.
The name Scot is derived from Scythia. Evidence points towards them settling in Hibernia around the time of Christ or sometime after.

St Patrick in the 5th century tells us there were two peoples inhabiting Hibernia - the Hibernii (natives) and the Scotti, new comers from Caledonia (attested by Roman writers in the 4th century). The Scotti Gaelicised Hibernia before adopting Christianity for Caledonia. St Columba was a Gael. Several Chapters in James Wylie's book 'history of the Scottish Nation' which cover all this.

This book was covered up and banned by the Vatican at the turn of the last century, even the copy in the library of congress was stolen. Too much of the Americans analysis of Scotland's history is viewed through the prism of Irish history. The two are totally different. Ireland was a dis-united, conquered, colonised mess and later all Catholics excluded from most things for many centuries.

Kenneth MacAlpin (Cináed mac Ailpín) became King of Picts, not King of Scots, in 843, as his mother was a Pict, of Royal descent no less. It was his grandsons Aith & Constantine, the two Pictish Prince's, that were to become the 1st Kings of the Kingdom ofAlba.
"ALBA" is the ancient name for the Old Pictish Kingdom, referred to in the Irish chronicles of 'Annals of the four Masters', and still remains the real name for Scotland in Gàidhlig & Gaelige to this day.

In the early 8th century, the Gaels were confronted with the rising power of the Caledonian Picts. In 736 AD the Picts (early Scots) stormed their capital Dunadd. Their leader, Unust, the annals record his 'smiting of Dál Riata' in 741AD. After his conquest Dál Riata became a back water with its kings subservient to the Picts.

The word 'Scot' derives from 'Scythia'.

It can hardly be questioned that the 'Scots' term is the same as 'Scyths'. There is a resemblance between 'Scythae' and 'Scoti', and only a difference in the pronunciation according to the different accent of the several peoples that spoke of them. So as Gethi, Gethicus, are the same as Gothi, Gothicus, so also from Scythoe, Scythicus, come Scoti, Scoticus. Gildas, in the sixth century, and Nennius in the ninth, use the names 'Scyuthoe' and 'Scoti' for the same people.

King Alfred, in his translation of Bede, and other writers of that time, use 'Scytisc' for 'Scottish', so that 'Scyt' and 'Scot' were synonymous.
Even Irish writers of the time uniformly said that the 'Scots' were 'Scythian', others say this origin of the nation when he shows that 'Scythoe' and 'Scoti' were but different names for the same people, and that both are called 'Scutten' by the Germans.

"History credits the Rev. Elijah Craig, a Baptist minister, with being the first in 1789 to make bourbon." He was a Scotsman. Kentucky is the place for bourbon because of the limestone which makes the water almost iron-free. "The first bourbon recognized by brand outside of Kentucky probably was produced by Dr. James Crow...a Scotsman who settled near the Rev. Craig's place." He was known by the locals as Jim Crow.

"The most casual observer and historian must admit that these early settlers played a leading part in setting the course in which the Nation travels today.
