XBOX360 fanboys:
The 360 people may one day become your allies **ironically** in defeating HD-DVD and the xbox360. Their HD-DVD add-on has poor playback quality and the movie selections are better on bluray. Therefore, because all 360's currently lack a bluray drive and because most of the hi-definition movies they'll want to watch are on bluray, almost all 11 million 360 owners will eventually be forced to contemplate the purchase of a standalone bluray drive when they're ready to jump into hi-definition movies. And the PS3 seems to be the best bluray player in terms of value in the market right now. And since they are gamers, too, most would opt for the PS3 unless they feel they've been burned too much in flame wars to love the PS3 anymore.
HD-DVD Gaming:
Adding hd-dvd gaming to Microsoft's add-on or to their elite console would frustrate their fanbase. With hd-dvd gaming, the developers must develop for the dvd, hd-dvd, or both formats. If they develop for the dvd, then the hd-dvd group will get upset. If they develop for the hd-dvd, then the dvd group will get upset. If they develop for both formats to the dvd's capacity, then the hd-dvd group will get upset and wonder why they even bothered with the hd-dvd in the first place for gaming. If they develop for both formats to their maximum capacities, then the dvd group might feel upset for having to upgrade their xbox360 again. Otherwise, they'd have to settle for an inferior version of a game that their friends might be enjoying in hd-dvd. However, after the upgrade, these 360 owners might discover that there will be almost no hd-dvd games available because the developers will focus on the initially larger dvd fanbase, unless Microsoft intervenes.
