Reading Goodfellas

Goodfellas is my favourite Scorsese film because in it he creates cinema the only way it should be created. Ecstatically. Every scene, every beat, and every shot and staging decision is invested with enough thought to make this a movie worth coming back to, again and again.

Which is why i chose this film to deconstruct the way scorsese creates layers of meanings, messages and subtexts with his masterly handling of all the tools at a filmmaker's disposal.

Why? Because the more i do it the more i learn. :)

i'm also doing this scene by scene in the middle of a lot of other things, so the updates are going to be erratic.
