@cwjian90 In 1977 they asked Lucas industries for help to redesign the engine management systems., and BAC-Aerospatiales for help with the air intake design. In 1978 they also asked the British for help to solve a host of other problems. The request was denied by the Brits, by the way.

@Bartz01able The test you mention was the Ivy-King shot. Ivy-Mike was the first full size (10.4MT) thermonuclear detonation in the world. The shot does look like Ivy-Mike though.

@DelanceyVids couldn´t agree more.

There was nothing wrong with the design. They simply detonated it in "clean" or "low yield" mode with a lead tamper instead of a natural uranium tamper. The biggest problem for that weapon was that there at no targets needing a weapon at that size.

Love this. They have now destroyed 3 Marinas. Wonder if the Marina owners association have the balls to challenge top gear again?
