@RiverBirch1967 Wapiti is in the Shawnee language. from Wapan (white) W'tiuk (rear end). Languages such as Cree, Ojibway, Miami amd Lenni Lenape are very similar to Shawnee and have cognates of Wapiti for Elk. :)
