After the sad passing of Titus the famed Silverback gorilla on September 14th, Karisoke staff and researchers have brought his body down from the mountains where he lived for more than 35 years, many weeping at the loss of their old friend.
Tituss body was then carried on a stretcher by ten porters from the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project in Ruhengeri, on a two-hour walk for burial at the site of Dian Fosseys old camp and her own gravesite. Leading the procession was Karisoke Field Operations Coordinator Jean Bosco Bizimuremyi and a military escort.
