SATRANGA CITIZEN OF THE WORLDTo Satranga, music blends with tones, colours, shades and light
In his performances,
Movement or expression of the body
say as much as a word or the stroke of a brush on a canvas.
It is a "photographic" music,
fruit of waves stored during years of trips
between Brazil, Caribbean, North America and Europe.
The world, as a huge playground,
Has given him infinite internal trips.
Native of Brazil and Canadian of adoption, Satranga claims to be a citizen of the World and his music is the fruit of an interbreeding of numerous influences.
He is the heir of Brazilian popular folklore, as Congadas, Reizadas or Bumba meu boi. But he is also a lover of the pure and simple Blues, as that of Billie Holiday, and folk songs music of hippy period. Satranga was also very marked by the musical movement of the blacks in the United States which, in the affirmation of negritude, brought a rainbow of rhythms and of new tonalities.Whether it be rock, funk, blues, country or reggae, " Black is beautiful " as sang by Elis Regina.
Musical son of Chopin, Satie, Marlui Miranda (anthropologist and Brazilian composer), Joni Mitchel, Milton Nascimento, Satranga venerates on top of everything, Elis Regina, Brazilian popular singer.
He has been very marked by the Movement of the Indépendants Alternatifs of Sao Paulo, which, towards the end of the 70' s, saw a outburst of a myriad of independent songwriters who defended a music of Avantgarde.
Bathing in the last sparks of this movement, Satranga, with his texts, his melodies, his
arrangements, his sound creativity succeeded, following the example of these artists, in producing a music Made in Brazil but where all styles, tossed together, made a music « of the world » full of authenticity.
In his youth, Satranga was fed on the Jazz by listening to Sarah Vaughan and to Ella Fitzgerald of the Blues jazz, through the voice of Billie Holiday, or on Bolero Blues through the singer, Nana Caymmi.
Later, his years in Canada drove him to musicians' meeting of very various types, in the électroacoustic, variety, R*B. His adaptability and his wish to explore all forms of expression, lead him to work for TV series, theater plays, short films, or modern dance, with the dance company "l'Astragale" or for the Brazilian choreographer Jadson Caldeira as part of the Festival Tangent Dance. http: // www............
His work has taken him to :

Satranga is the explosion of Brazilian music, yes,
but Brazil nourished and enriched by dance, literature,
photography, meditation, movement, Brazil
loving theater as much as north americain and European pop culture ...
Satranga is definitely Brazilian but mostly, he is one of a kind and an unclassifiable artist.
