So there I was, no shit. renting a car to go to sd. and i was all liek shit yeah i need full coverage insurance but I'm getting to that. The old toyota is over 120k miles so it was neccesary. (250 bucks) I sold off a lot of my old videogames and whatnot to go on this trip. new experiences are more important than old memories. letting go of the past is a good thing. five hundred miles seems like a short drive but with stops that shit takes 8 hours. Thats the longest Ive ever driven and did wonder if i could do it...and did. Got there. The motel ended up being a ymca hostel (whatever the fuck that is) and had no parking. so i had to drive around for hours to find this five star or ace parking lot that was five bucks a night and 15 each day.. 80 bucks in all..thats more than gas for the trip holy shit..so after my girlfriend came back in tears because the "motel" charged her an extra 120 bucks for a "deposit" we had little money to do much but we made due. The night ended with a trip to joe's crab shack which was some of the best goddamn seafood/potatoes/sausage/corn on the cob bucket ever. on the way back to the hostel I was quite impressed by the trolley system san diego has.. If we had something like that in flagstaff i wouldnt even need a fuckign car. Finally the view of the bay and a lot of the plantlife was quite surreal..it was like seeing things i'd only seen faux or in pictures.
Day1
. after having to wake up at 5:30 am (and every day after that to pay for parking) I came back and broke out in hives ..itchy and obnoxious..good thing the 711 down the street had some antihistamine..sea world was about as expected12 bucks for parking and 59 to get in with a coupon. This particular "educational amusement park" is confusing as all hell to navigate so its a good thing they have maps and my gf had been there before. Now then, the whale show and dolphin show was a bit of a yawn to say the least. The Sll walrus/otter show was much more entertaining and was able to actually keep my attention. also i had no idea sea world made a multi platform shamu the whale game for xbox /gc etc. We won it in some arcade and it fucking sucks. don't play that game..ever. In the end I think I learned something about sea life and got to interact with some creatures but it had a strange "virtual reality" feel to it much like disney world etc. they call it "sea world magic" I call it "fake bullshit" anywho.
Day 2
much more lax day. Ate one of the best all you can eat sushi bars at a place called "onami". You know you're eating good food when it completely changes your state of mind. After that took a trip over to mission beach and belmont park. Got to see, and walk around in the ocean for the first time. On the way out grabbed a delicious bean and cheese and LARD burrito. and some nestea reps were throwing out some red tea by the pallete ..pretty cool free shit. although my rental car got scratched up in the parking lot I gave two shits because I had full coverage. I should have smashed the headlights and cracked the windshield before i returned it ..goddamn insurance companies have got their money out of me over the years I may as well get mine..fuck. but i digress.
Day 3
went to balboa park and ate at some japanese food stand and went through a traditional japanese garden..which was pretty small considering millions of dollars had been donated to it..balboa park itself was a yawn and a half..lots of museums and such..the kind of place you go to on a field trip with your school classmates I suppose..yay. Left that place..went to a korean grocer and picked up some soju and snacks like buttered squid and whatnot..then went to a japanese market and picked up the rest of the non perishable stuffs..and then got to have bananna milk for the first time in years..the mild takoyaki was spicy as hell..at some place called tapioca express. finally got to do karaoke at a small rent by the room place in the korean section of town...imo karaoke should just be done with friends in a small place where you can drink and smoke and have a good time..not in some goddamn crowded bar with a bunch of assholes that want to sing the same goddamn annoying top 40's bullshit every day.
day 4
leaving town was much easier than getting in and was very much welcome at this point. even though i had 4 hours of sleep i still made it home on adrenaline..i dont know how in the fuck people fall asleep at the wheel while driving.. got home, unpacked and insurance covered the car after all.. after that I was due for some much needed sleep..in the end the vactaion eneded up being more work than actual relaxation but live and learn I suppose.
