My name is Matthew but I have went by the nickname of Sandman since I was nine years old. I am now 43 years old and I live in the thick of the Laurel Mountains in Southwestern Pennsylvania. I have always loved Pennsylvania and I shall always call it home no matter where I may be.

I tend to be a very complex person and trying to figure me out can take some time. I'm a heavy smoker and I suspect that I shall be until I draw my last smoke filled breath. My cigarette of preferance is Marlboro Reds but I also smoke a pipe and I love cigars...especially quality ones.

I rarely drink but on occassion I will indulge...not too often though. Beer serves the purpose but Scotch takes me back to my roots. I should also mention that I am a firm believer that no one should ever drink and get behind the wheel of an automobile. Those that drink and drive are a very low form of life indeed because they are taking chances with the lives of others and they simply do not care. They are always sorry after they have killed a member of someone's family but there is nothing that can be done at that point. I support stronger penalties for DUI offenders and it is only through such actions that our roads will become a safer place.

My religious views are simply...I am an atheist. I am even proud of that fact. I have no problem with religion whatsoever and you can rest assured that I shall always respect whatever your personal views may be. I am not your average non believer though. I do believe in life after death. I simply do not believe in a God. My mind does remain open though. I will not say that I am right and you are wrong because when it comes down to the heart of the matter we shall never truely know who is correct until we encounter death.

If you wish to discuss politics I will be more than willing to travel down that road as well. I'm a registered democrat but I do not always agree with everything that my party stands for. Sometimes I agree with Republican views and other times I simply think that they are both full of shit. The bottom line is that I love my country and I would defend it with my last breath.

My military service died before it began. I joined the army at the age of 17 but I failed the psychological profile due to extremely violent tendencies. I know that probably makes me sound like an asshole but I have never been what I consider a violent person. Violence should only be used when a man...(never a woman or child)...is in your face and threatening you with force. In such a situation I have no problem beating someone into intensive care. There is no shame in defending one's person or family.

I have many other interests ranging from photography to the paranormal sciences. I have been the point man for a paranormal research team for nearly nine years now. The group is entitled Society of the D.E.A.D. (Direct Evidence After Death). Our primary goal is the recording of evp's (Electronic Voice Phenomenon). An evp, put simply, is the recorded voices or thought patterns of the dead. I would be more than happy to discuss the finer points of this science with anyone that has an open mind.

I am also an advid outdoorsman...or I was...I am getting older now and I have generally lived my life with a pedal to the floor attitude and that is catching up with me now. My health is getting worse and I am getting ever closer to my grave but I have come to terms with that and you know what...I'm cool with it. Despite what I may have believed when I was younger...I am not indestructable. I certainly did feel that I was though. I was a very devoted body builder but I did have an issue with steroid abuse. I never had a problem using steroids though because I was not competing in any type of athletics. I simply wanted to improve my body and that was the choice that I made. Case closed.

The martial arts also played an important part in my life. My father was a Judo instructor in the Marine Corp and he insisted that I become involved in the art. I never pledged myself to any one form though because there is much to be learned from the various styles.

My position on firearms and gun control? I believe in being just as heavily armed as possible. Another trait passed onto me by my father. He was an asshole but he taught me how to survive.
