Being a Professional D.J.and Musician, my musical interest, style, and taste varies. Unfortunately most of today's sound is lacking the passion of yesterdays groups. In the early 90's I found myself purchasing more Import and less commercial domestic vinyl 12" records for our music was changing, and not in a good way. Although albums were not manufactured as frequently in the U.S. due to the popularity of ( Philips introduces the Compact Disc.), 12" singles and promo's were still being pressed for popular D.J.'s were the best means of promoting music, however, vinyl records regained some popularity in 2008, with nearly 3 million units shipped that year, the most in any year since 1998. Vinyl records are used predominantly by D.J.'s and audiophiles for certain types of music, especially Disco, Electronic dance, Hip hop, Punk rock, Jazz and Classic country. We the D.J's of the 70's were the pioneers of non stop Disco mixed dance music. My fellow D.J.'s and I simultaneously ran two, three and four turntables combined with tape machines to create and produce those dance mixes that everyone loves, admires, and today's D.J.'s sample. Yes, we had the pitch under control. Real D.J.'s use vinyl and besides vinyl records have a sound no recording devices nor compact discs of any kind can reproduce. It's like comparing differences between solid state and tube amplifiers. It is through my experience and knowledge to state " Nothing will ever replace vinyl records. The music speaks for itself."
